Adam Bates is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he directs the Secure & Transparent Systems Laboratory. Adam has conducted research on a range of security topics including operating system design, network communications, and peripheral devices. He is best known for his contributions in the area of data provenance, which have provided novel approaches to system auditing that enable accurate and reliable investigation of system intrusions. Adam received his PhD from the University of Florida, where he was advised by Professor Kevin Butler in the study of computer security.
